SmarterStats Release Notes and Version History

Several releases contain notes marked as "Important". Prior to upgrading versions, enter your current build number (e.g. 7852) to view important notes that may affect your upgrade.

3.3.3220 (Oct 26, 2008)

  • Fixed: Includes the correct license for the FTP component.

  • Security: Fixed a vulnerability that allowed users to access site admin pages.

3.3.2950 (Jan 29, 2008)

  • Added: Default Site Settings now contains an option to set the default time zone for newly added sites.
  • Added: Time zones will now adjust for daylight savings time automatically.
  • Changed: Several time zone updates were made, including one added for the new Venezula Caracas time zone.
  • Fixed: A rare FTP exception was fixed that caused download session to end with "Could not find directory" even if the directory exists.
  • Fixed: W3C log importer was not properly handling quoted strings in some cases.

3.3.2761 (Jul 23, 2007)

  • Added: Logging added for activation and licensing.
  • Changed: Geographic database from MaxMind was updated to more current information.
  • Fixed: Duplicate email reports could be sent out in some cases.
  • Fixed: Email report processing interval will now correctly be taken into account.
  • Fixed: Sometimes the autogenerated help page would not show up for Web Services.

3.3.2693 (May 17, 2007)

  • Added: A new web service, called Query.asmx, was added to facilitate querying SmarterStats from external programs.
  • Added: License validation with audit tracking.
  • Added: Strong passwords can now be created for added protection.
  • Added: You can now specify an inverse filter in your filter sets by adding a (!) symbol in front of the filter.
  • Changed: Updated the UserAgentDef.xml file to include several more spiders and browsers.
  • Fixed: Certain releases of Opera 8 and 9 will now correctly show their version numbers in Browser reports
  • Fixed: Compression component was replaced to improve performance and resolve a rare compression bug.
  • Fixed: Custom reports will now graph the fields that you specified when creating the report instead of defaults.
  • Fixed: Geographic database from MaxMind was updated to more current information.
  • Fixed: In the Geographic reports, Iceland is now correctly counted in Europe instead of North America
  • Fixed: Resolved an issue which would sometimes throw a "Stream not Readable" error when attempting to parse a log file.
  • Fixed: Service Version Info page was throwing "Page Not Found" exception
  • Fixed: SmarterStats will no longer consider accessing content with a different browser string a seperate visit. You must reimport your logs to see this on past data.
  • Fixed: The default filter set will now filter on the welcome page.
  • Fixed: When re-processing a large site, it will now react more quickly when the service is stopped.

3.2.2602 (Feb 15, 2007)

  • Please note that if you use Enterprise Edition, the main installation and all remote services need to be updated with this release because of back-end changes to the communication protocol.
  • Fixed: Email reports failed to send if reports contained the character '{'
  • Fixed: Exported logs were always exporting as W3Cex logs
  • Fixed: If a site##.xml file has an internal site ID value that doesn't match the actual site ID, it will now get fixed automatically.
  • Fixed: Remote servers in different time zones than the MRS servers will no longer cause time offset problems in reporting.
  • Fixed: When using hackable URLs and web services (ex. /programfile.asmx/functionname), traffic numbers and page view numbers didn't match up.

3.2.2480 (Oct 16, 2006)

  • Added: Browser and OS list updated to support IE 7, FireFox 2, Windows Vista, and several other new browser and OS types.
  • Fixed: Data Mining Query "What is the daily activity that this file gets" was showing empty days in certain cases.
  • Fixed: Resolved a rare issue where the number of sites appeared incorrectly in very large installations..

3.1.2357 (Jun 28, 2006)

  • Fixed: Certain conditions could cause the import loop to stall. This has been resolved.
  • Fixed: Export would show no data if exporting data from a report favorite.
  • Fixed: Exporting Search Engine reports will now properly show the engine name and column headers
  • Fixed: Favorites now get properly sent in email reports
  • Fixed: Host Header exclusions are now taken into account with visit length, page view, entry, exit, path, and recent visitor reports.
  • Fixed: The web service Statistics/GetActivityForServer was caching results improperly, leading to incomplete result sets when calling multiple servers one after another.
  • Fixed: When emailing a custom report that includes report items that have custom date settings, the header for the email report will now read "Date Range: [multiple]"

3.1.2312 (May 1, 2006)

  • Added: An option to disable FTP resuming was added due to incorrect behavior through some firewalls.
  • Added: CompressionLevel setting added to server properties that allows values from 0 to 9 (5 by default). Lower values perform better for larger sites while sacrificing some disk space
  • Added: File exclusions now available in site import settings.
  • Added: Import times can be configured through the server properties page. The default is to run all the time, 00:00 to 23:59. Import processes will not start outside of this time frame. Using this setting will also cause reprocessing stats for sites to be delayed until that time frame, so take this into consideration when overriding the values.
  • Added: Number of minutes of idle time between import loops (idle time) can be configured in the server properties page.
  • Added: Server Properties page was added to the free and Professional Editions of the product to give access to settings for the background service.
  • Fixed: "Logged In As" is now translatable
  • Fixed: Adding a data mine report to a favorite now properly shows the query item report.
  • Fixed: Changes to existing sites' FTP information would not take effect until the service did a full synchronization (every hour)
  • Fixed: Downloading from FTP Servers that use SUID, SGID, or Sticky, then downloads could sometimes fail
  • Fixed: Hong Kong added to Asia report
  • Fixed: Recent Visitor reports now take site exclusions and inclusions into effect
