SmarterStats Release Notes and Version History

Several releases contain notes marked as "Important". Prior to upgrading versions, enter your current build number (e.g. 7852) to view important notes that may affect your upgrade.

5.4.4100 (Mar 24, 2011)

  • Fixed: SEO processing for keywords and sites in Google has been updated to reflect a recent change in how Google search results are returned.

5.4.3925 (Sep 30, 2010)

  • Fixed: Files with spaces in the name can now be drilled down into data mining queries as expected.
  • Fixed: Improved URL matching and SEO processing so that URLs such as example.com no longer return report data for URLs such as 123example.com.
  • Security: Turned on custom error messages to resolve an ASP.NET security vulnerability that allows an attacker to request and download files within an ASP.NET application.
  • Security: Various UI changes have been made to prevent XSS attacks.

  • Fixed: Automatic updates to the SEO processing definition file no longer require the SmarterStats service to be restarted.
  • Fixed: Custom reports containing multiple data mining favorite report items now display the correct data for all report items.
  • Fixed: SEO trend reports now function as expected for sites with no SEO competitors.
  • Fixed: Switching between top navigation sections in the SmarterStats web interface is now a lot faster for installations with thousands of sites.
  • Fixed: The SEO parsing definitions file for SmarterStats has been updated to allow correct parsing of the Google search results count.

5.2.3771 (Apr 29, 2010)

  • Fixed: Auto-deletion of Web log files now works as expected.
  • Fixed: Filter sets are now sorted alphabetically in all filter set drop-down lists.
  • Fixed: FTP sites now process correctly when the FTP server settings include pipes in either the username or password.
  • Fixed: If passive mode is not supported, SmarterStats now automatically downloads logs from a FTP server using non-passive mode.
  • Fixed: Selecting a new primary site administrator now removes that role from any other users in the site. As a result, the user that previously served as the primary site administrator can now be deleted if desired.
  • Fixed: The Browser Versions report item now displays unknown browsers correctly in the legend when the selected chart type is a flat pie chart.
  • Fixed: The search engine definition for Microsoft Network now includes Bing and search engine reports will now refer to the Microsoft Network as Bing.
  • Fixed: The sorting setting now functions as expected when generating and viewing favorite reports.

5.1.3666 (Jan 14, 2010)

  • Added: Smarterstats now detects if the default Web server has been disabled when upgrading from a previous version. This prevents the default Web server from inadvertently being re-enabled.
  • Added: The ability to run SmarterStats under integrated mode in IIS.
  • Changed: Non-trend SEO report items in a custom report now process data from the latest date in the custom reports date range.
  • Changed: SmarterStats Free edition now limits the number of SEO keywords and competitors tracked in SEO campaigns to a maximum of 10 keywords and 10 competitors.
  • Fixed: Custom reports containing favorite reports now generate properly.
  • Fixed: Enabling a filter set as the active filter set now selects that filter set by default when viewing report items, standard reports, or data mining reports.
  • Fixed: SmarterStats now processes the final line of log files properly.
  • Fixed: Sorting by numeric data columns, such as visits or hits, now functions as expected on server-level reports.
  • Fixed: The daily and monthly visitors report items now display correct statistics. Previously, some session data was lost between processing loops, resulting in inaccurate statstics ( such as lower visit counts in daily and monthly visit length report items).
  • Fixed: The Export, Email and Print buttons on the SEO research pages now function as expected.
