Nokia's built-in sync client does not work with SmarterMail's implementation of SyncML because SmarterMail does not support the compressed version of SyncML that Nokia uses. I've received the following response from SmarterTools:
"The
issue isn't the device, rather one of the additional 'protocol/formats'
that it is trying to utilize. It is using WBXML, which is not yet
supported.
Development is looking into that issue."
I am using an E71, and another user at our office has an N95. We would really like to be able to sync our Nokia devices to SmarterMail. It seems rather obvious as Nokia is the world market leader in cell phones, and has a built-in sync client.
By the way, I've also tried the Funambol Java ME client for this, but it doesn't work. The reason for this is that the Java Funambol client is a mail-only client. SmarterMail's SyncML doesn't support mail sync, so that is why Funambol won't work for Nokia (you can get their free account though, which pulls your email into Funambol's portal, and will then push it down to the Funambol client on a Nokia device). Also, the Funambol Java client doesn't support syncing contacts, cal, notes, etc. because Nokia has built-in sync support for this (which of course doesn't work with SmarterMail).
So all Nokia users are without a sync solution as far as I can tell.
