Sync Nokia E90 with Smartermail - Invalid Host Address?

    Hello,

I'm trying to sync my contact and calendar from my Nokia E90 to Smartermail Enterprise 5.5.

This is how I setup the sync:

    Server version: 1.1 (I also tried 1.2)
Server ID: none (when using v1.2)
    Data bearer: Internet
Access point: Always ask (user defined also tried)
    Host address: http://mail.domainname.com/sync/default.aspx
    Port: 80
username: email address (domain name different to host address)
    password: passwd
    Allow sync request: yes
    Accept all sync requests: yes
    Network authentication: no

These settings always produced a "Invalid Host Address" error. Why is this? Anybody else experienced this?

I tried synching to funambol using their host address of : http://my.funambol.com/sync, it works everytime.

    I really appreciate any help.

    Regards,
    Greg

Nokia's built-in sync client does not work with SmarterMail's implementation of SyncML because SmarterMail does not support the compressed version of SyncML that Nokia uses. I've received the following response from SmarterTools:

"The issue isn't the device, rather one of the additional 'protocol/formats' that it is trying to utilize. It is using WBXML, which is not yet supported.

Development is looking into that issue.
    "

I am using an E71, and another user at our office has an N95. We would really like to be able to sync our Nokia devices to SmarterMail. It seems rather obvious as Nokia is the world market leader in cell phones, and has a built-in sync client.

By the way, I've also tried the Funambol Java ME client for this, but it doesn't work. The reason for this is that the Java Funambol client is a mail-only client. SmarterMail's SyncML doesn't support mail sync, so that is why Funambol won't work for Nokia (you can get their free account though, which pulls your email into Funambol's portal, and will then push it down to the Funambol client on a Nokia device). Also, the Funambol Java client doesn't support syncing contacts, cal, notes, etc. because Nokia has built-in sync support for this (which of course doesn't work with SmarterMail).

So all Nokia users are without a sync solution as far as I can tell.

    Man, that is disappointing.

How can SM exclude the most dominant/used phone brand in the world? I wish I knew before my purchase. I assumed just because my E90 worked with funambol, it's also going to work with SM, since SM has been promoting the use of funambol in conjunction with their service.

SM, any date on when you're going to support Nokia?

I tried synching a Sony Ericsson P1, same result, it failed.

I guess the conclusion is if you're using mobile phones other than windows mobile, blackberry or iphone, you're outta luck.

    Very very disappointed... Tongue Tied

If you enable SyncML logging, what errors appear in the log? Is it the same WBXML issue that Nokia users have?

Sony Ericsson uses WBXML as well, except my old P800 Wink

So by adding WBXML support will expand the devices covered by a lot !
