    Log file size limitation

Is the a limitation on the size of a raw log file that SS will import? We have one site that generates 600+ MB log files daily and it will not import. It keeps stalling on processing the log files.

Of course I can not limit the log files... or can I? What would happen to stats if I changed to either hourly or segmented to to rotate whe nit hit say 100 MB? Would SS still import properly or must te logs be rotated daily?

We just put out a new update to SmarterStats 4 that may help you.  Can you give that a try and let us know if it works?

If you are running an earlier version of SmarterStats, you will want to install SmarterStats 4 on a separate machine to test this. It will run in free mode after you install it which allows you to add a single site.

    Re: Log file size limitation

thanks for the update. we are running version 4 and I just installed this.

It would be so nice if there would be any way to remotely update the clients. We have donzens and this takes quite a while to update by hand.

Change your websites to make logs on an hourly schedule rather than daily.  This will make a new log file every hour, which is more manageable for smarterstats.

So you are running the latest version of 4 (4.0.3159)?  Just want to make sure as the efficiency improvement was added to that release, previous versions of 4 would not have it.
