    SmarterMail with Hotmail

    Hi People,

A customer of ours sends emails from their server ( that has a dynamic ip) onto their domain in smartermail.

Sending emails to the domain works fine the problem comes when they try to send to a hotmail adresss.

The email is sent through our server.

The error message back is: 550 Authentication is required for relay

    Anyone got any ideas?

     Thanks

test your spf records, apply for microsoft senderid, and try domainkeys...

also make sure they login through their domain server for the smartermail server like mail.domain.com if from@domain.com ... not mail.other.com (thats often the case)... make sure they use their login and password...

turn off relays... see if that helps too.

these are good tests accounts as well:

    dktest@exhalus.net
    check-auth@verifier.port25.com
    spf-test@openspf.org

"550 Authentication is required for relay" means that your domain requires SMTP Authentication, but the user doesn't have that option checked in his email client.

     Managed to fix the problem,

It was due to the txt spf records.
