Hello

We have SM5.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but how do I retrieve email from the archive file?

When I browse the zip files in windows explorer it says each item in the zip file is 4Gb. ??

If I try to right click and extract all ... it says the compressed folder is invalid or corrupted.

I'd like like to let you know that this is not a stupid question and it's not just you.  I'm noticing the same problem.  We started noticing this problem about 2 months ago after upgrading to Smartermail 5.1.

If anyone else is having this problem, Smartertools has identified this as an issue and is working on a solution.  By the way, we also notice a problem when using Java to unzip these .zip files. Here is an error message that we get:

Ensure that the file is a valid zip file and it is accessible. Cause : java.util.zip.ZipException: ZIP_Read: specified offset out of range

Hopefully both these issues will get resolved soon.

I'm just another user of Smartermail like you are, and I don't work for Smartermail.  I was just letting you and other users know that Smartertools has responded to this issue after we sumbitted a ticket at http://www.smartertools.com/portal/.

You said they were working on a solution. Do you know if that solution includes retrieving stuff from previous archive file or will it just be fixed from now on?

Another reason I'm glad I didn't upgrade to 5.1, nothing but problems with that release. Hopefully 5.5 fixes a lot of issues.

But I thought the archives were in some other format that started with a .grp or something like that. I'll have to check. I do need to figure out how to actually open and find archived emails in case I actually need one!!!  :)

 I'm told that this will be fixed in Smartermail 5.5.  In what build this will be fixed and when it will be available, I do not know yet.

 I've opened a support ticket for it as well but haven't had an answer yet.

 It is slightly annoying to have to pay for support when there is clearly a bug causing the problem. I know that has often been repeated here in the forum. :-(

 Having said that, its the same with virtually all other IT stuff. :-)

This should be fixed in the current SmarterMail 5.5 BETA. The cause of the problem is the zip library we use. We upgraded it for SmarterMail 5.1. Well, part of the upgrade was 64 bit support (for files > 4GB), which apparently, Microsoft's zip handler can not handle. In any case, we turned 64 bit support off for 5.5.

Additionally, please note that these zip files are NOT corrupt. You can still use them with more "advanced" utilities like WinZip or WinRAR or 7Zip.
