Email goes to Hotmail then......goes where?

    10:30:50 [76049] RSP: 221 bay0-mc2-f15.bay0.hotmail.com Service closing transmission channel
10:30:50 [76049] Delivery for sharpey@mydomain.com to xxxxxxxx@hotmail.com has completed (Delivered)
    10:30:52 [76049] Delivery finished for sharpey@mydomain.com at 10:30:52 [id:41876049]

Apparently it's been delivered, but never appears in the inbox? Confused

     All the mail contains is;

    subject: test

    body: hello

Although if I send the exact same email, but attach a picture, it gets delivered (same message as above) and also appears in my inbox.

I'm not sure I've got my DNS records for the domain configured entirely correctly, but I have got a FQDN for the server name and an SPF record configured for the sending domain.

Anyone else had the same issue?  Found a fix?  Make a man happy and spread the knowledge please.....  Huh?

Per your logs the message was delivered to one of the hotmail SMTP servers.  Beyond that there's no way to tell what happened to the message.  The message may have triggered a filter of some kind inside of hotmail and the message deleted... no way to really know.

The best thing you can do is open a trouble ticket with hotmail and ask them.

You can try to contact Hotmail, but they rarely take the time to troubleshoot email delivery issues.

What they recommended to me was to make sure I am not on any RBL's, make sure my Reverse DNS was setup, make sure I am using SPF keys and make sure none of my users are not sending ANY SPAM from any of the domains on my IP range.

I know I have all the above set, but I still have some issues with AOL, Hotmail, Bellsouth and few others. I have not been able to pinpoint it but I am prety sure it is related to some filter on their end...

Re: Email goes to Hotmail then......goes where?

I have had the same issue for a couple of weeks. it also included yahoo, gmail. i jumped through all the hoops of filling out forms, etc on the various sites. this was the last response from yahoo:

This is an automated message regarding your recent request for Yahoo!

Postmaster Customer Care Support. We have received your message but due to a temporary problem we wanted to let you know it could take up to a week until you receive a response. We apologize for this inconvenience.

    steps i took were:

configure my reverse dns on my server and a complete spf policy for each of my domains

i still see a few emails that dont make it to receiver, but it has gotten a little better than a few weeks ago.

Thanks for all the replies so far guys!  I am running the software on a dedicated server from a hosting company, and if I do a reverse lookup on the IP address there is a record present. Is this enough?

I've logged a call with Hotmail and will post back, if any, reply from them.

Re: Email goes to Hotmail then......goes where?

i have the same setup as well. my dedicated host said they were the only ones who could setup my rDNS, but doing the lookup should be enough if it matches. also this is an example of my spf that is in the dns record of all my domains (150):

TXT ( "v=spf1 ip4: [your ip blocks here] ?all" )

this is what hotmail told me:

We have identified that messages from your IP [my ip address] are being blocked based on the recommendations of the Symantec Brightmail  as traffic/e-mail originating from your IP matched characteristics of recent spam attacks from compromised, or 'zombie' infected, machines.

After reviewing the information you provided, we have taken steps to remove the block. This change should take effect within the next 24-48 hours.

do a search for:  Symantec Brightmail. it seems to be causing some problems
