    BUG report: Search in mailbox

We've just install version 5.5 of SmarterMail on our production server and found that "Search" doesn't do anything ...

We are running on a Win 2003 server.

I find it very strange if this is a "known problem" that haven't been fixed.

Any ideas what to look fore and where ?

    Re: Search in mailbox

I've seen a few other posts complaining of this. I've never had the problem myself. I'm running on Windows Server 2003 and SmarterMail v5.5.3223.

I don't have any suggestions but wanted you to know that the search does work for someone anyway. I wonder if it could be browser related. Try IE6/7, Firefox, and Opera to see if the behavior is the same.

    Re: Search in mailbox

Thanks for your reply and suggestion. I tryed it in IE7, Firefox and Safri with same result. The "loading" up in right corner is showing for 0.1 sec - and no change is made to the list of mails.

I'm running "SmarterMail Enterprise Edition 5.5.3223" my self. Since you have heard it as a complain before - but haven't had problem - got me thinking.

I'm running this on English Win 2003 version - not US. Our date format is ddmmyyyy not mmddyyyy. The standard search is set to limit the search to 30 days. I tryed to change it to "All time" (=no date/time selection) and then the search works!!!

So - it seems that there is a date/time problem in the search..

    Where did you set that?

    Re: Search in mailbox

When you click on the search button there's a time frame pulldown. So you can search [All Time], Last 30 Days, Last 90 Days, Last 6 Months, or Last 12 Months.

I think to setup other languages you need to download a language pack.

    Re: Search in mailbox

You are right. In the search you can select: [All Time], Last 30 Days, Last 90 Days, Last 6 Months, or Last 12 Months - if I select anything but [All Time] the search will go to an error - it doesn't just report "no subject" - it only "flash" the "loading bar" in right corner for some seconds and stop = no change to screen. If I do select the [All Time] it will process the search and show matching emails as expected.

The date format is set by the langauge selected on the server at installation - it could be US or EN (English) - we would still use the "native" language files.

I just upgraded from SM 3.x to 5.5 - 3.x did not have the "days selection" and we didn't see that problem.

I see no places in the language packs that will work date formats ..

By default the search will take selection "Last 30 days" does any have a solution to make "[All Time]" the prefered selection ? That would help my 400+ users that can't get search to work

    Re: Search in mailbox

I'm having a lot of trouble with Search, too. It seems to simply be broken.

    ST, any comments on this?

    Some examples:

Searching for the word 'leisure' in my Junk folder in From, Subject and Body yielded no results, even though I had a message from an address at travelandleisurecustomersvc.com and 'Travel & Leisure' appears in the body as well.

Meanwhile, a search on 'magazine' in the body yielded 18 results, not including the above message (even though the word 'magazine' did appear in the body), and only including one message that actually had the word 'magazine' in the body. The other 17 messages didn't include the word 'magazine' anywhere.
