How to get Flash (swf) files uploaded in KB articles to display?

I've got the latest ST release and overall it's working fantastically. I can't believe we stuck with our home grown POS so long!

But, we've got about 25 video tutorials for different actions and problems areas our clients hit. I'd like to tuck all our "help" content under one umbrella...SmarterTrack. So, I've been trying to upload the flash movies to ST's KB articles but I hit two problems:

    1. File size is limited to 5120KB
    2. They appear to upload to the directory and insert into the KB article okay, but they're not displaying at all on the KB article.

Do I need to have the swfObject.js sitting in a directly somewhere so that the flash files display properly on the HTML KB article?

How do I change the max file size for upload?

Hi, I think you can change the swf files to animated gif file format for uploading. I use iwisoft swf to video converter. It also can convert swf to animated gif files. It works excellent for me. good quality. Hope it helps. I get it from http://www.swftovideo.net/swf-to-gif/

There's also an option in General Settings for acceptable document extensions. If you append .swf to this list you will also be able to flash files to these documents. However, actually having them appear in the document itself will need to be done through the KB's HTML with an object tag.

    Hope this helps.

We can not find the proposed option in General Settings.

However we managed to place a flash file into a KB article. Only it will not play. Can you help us out?

You will need to upgrade to the most recent version of SmarterTrack to see this option in General Settings.

Thanks for your answer. We updated SmarterTrack but the .swf files won't work.

We found this document on the NET about using object tags for displaying Active Content:

    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/activecontent/articles/devletter.html

After reviewing the generated .html it seems SmarterTrack uses a blocked method for displaying flash objects.

    Could you help us out?

Unfortunately, we prevent certain scripts from running in the current version of SmarterTrack. I believe SWF files are no exception to this rule either. The next version may have support for embedding flash objects in KB articles if the method you've tried doesn't work.

Has there been any update to this?  I would like to embed a swf file in a KB article yet it doesn't show up.

    Thanks,
    Stan

An alternative that I would like to see implemented is for ST to have the option of loading a url's content into a popup window.

You could then have a link in the KB to a url (possibly youtube) that shows the video and I guess would avoid security issues, bandwidth etc etc on the ST Server.

I would like to see the popup idea available in the Custom Links as well as presently I open a new window that only contains a list of 20 files or so. A popup would be heaps neater.Smile
