Over-the-air sync (Funambol + BlackBerry Curve)

Over-the-air sync can't be as difficult as I've seen. Somebody tell me I'm doing something stupid and show me the error of my ways.

I am using MS Outlook 2007, and I have a Blackberry Curve. They're going up against a SmarterMail Enterprise 5.5.

My goal is to sync calendar, notes and contacts with SmarterMail.

I didn't see any step-by-step instructions. SmarterToold has a PDF, but it didn't keep me from running agound. Here's what I did--

    • Nothing to the SmarterMail server.
    • Nothing to MS Outlook.
    • Went to the funambol website. The instructions told me to point my Blackberry Curve at the following webpage...
        http://my.funambol.com/bb/plugin.jad

When I pointed the Curve at that page, it downloaded application code to the blackberry.  So far, no errors.

The first time I tried this, I just launched the "BlackBerry PIM Plug-in."  On the BlackBerry, I made the following settings--
      server: http://mail.mydomain.com
      user name: myRegularLogin@mydomain.com
      user password: myEmailPwd

Security notices flew every which way. I did have connectivity privs, so I deleted the application from my BlackBerry Curve and went back to the *.jad page a funambol. The application downloaded again. This second time, I set every priv I could find to "allow," and the error message changed.  This time it was--
     Error 400. Bad request.

That's an HTTPD error. I recognize it.

Can anybody spot where I messed up?  Even better: does anybody know of any actual instructions for setting up over-the-air sync?

    Thanks.

The server path should be http://mail.mydomain.com/sync/default.aspx.  Once you have changed the server path you should be able to connect and sync just fine.

Re: Over-the-air sync (Funambol + BlackBerry PEARL)

Setup just like noted and I keep getting

"Sync may have failed due to a loss of Internet connectivity. If the probolem persists when connected to the Internet, please try again... " I am connected (did OTA install of funambol 7.07 plugin for blackberry on my pearl)

Is there anything that I have to set on the server? Standard install of SM 5.5 Enterprise (Free) on my Crystaltech dedicated server and verified the funambol settings.

There is no configuration that needs to be made in SmarterMail.  Try uninstalling and re-installing the funambol client this has resolved a syncing issue with another user.

No dice, uninstalled and then did an OTA of the 7.0.0 version... no change, same msgs... I'll uninstall and then pull the files for 7.0.7 and try it a third time.

Tried 7.0.0 and 7.0.7 versions and all with the same results. I think my dream of using SM for managing my tasks, contacts and calendar is delayed again.

Turned on some more detailed logging and got this

Http error: code=[405] msg=[Method Not Allowed]

    Once for each attempted sync.

What are the setting for the funambol plugi-n?  It should be the URL to access your webmail interface with /sync/default.aspx at the end of it.  So it should be simular like http//mail.domainname.com/sync/default.aspx and you full email address and password.

I have similar issue when trying to sync SmarterMail Enterprise 5.5 with my Blackberry 8830. I have installed the funambol plug-in for my Blackberry. But, everytimes it try to sync to my email account, it always says "no messages" although there are so messages in my mailbox. Can you please help me troubleshoot this issue?

    Thanks!

Re: Over-the-air sync (Funambol + BlackBerry PEARL)

Good luck, I got it to work and all I got for my trouble was a battery drainer. I had it on there and syncing with the max amount of time between syncs.. then turned it to manual and still depleted the battery in record time. I uninstalled the app and my battery time went back to norm. I literally wasnt able to run out the day with the battery from 6 am till about 3 or 4pm

Removed it... dont need to sync that bad.
