    SmarterMail CPU I/O Performance Issues

    Hello,

We are using SmarterMail Professional Edition Version 4.3.2831 on a windows Virtual Private Server with 1 GB RAM hosted at Applied Innovations. We've been having all kinds of stability issues and many indications point to SmarterMail as the culprit. We are running IIS 6.

MailService.exe always takes up the most CPU on the server of any process. When we had the Virus checking turned on, it consumed the entire server RAM and crashed the machine. When we turned virus checking off, memory usage went down but it still uses a lot of CPU and may be having some conflicts as it has caused sites to go down, etc.

We have also had email stop working on occasion and when we signed into the server via Remote Desktop, we found that the SmarterMail service had stopped and ended up having to restart it. Usually after doing that, SmarterMail would consume a lot of memory so we would have to restart the VPS.

We only have a few small web sites on the VPS. They barely send any email and we don't receive much email either. Most of what we do get is spam of course.

My question is how do we get this to be more stable and how do we lower or throttle the CPU usage by MailService.exe?

I've seen other people in the forums indicate performance issues. Are there settings that can improve this problem?

What can we do to rapidly resolve this problem? If anyone else encountered these issues and found a solution, please let us know.

    Thanks!

     Anthony
