Smartermail 5 POP connection errors (no connections)

Hi I have recently installed SM5 on a new machine and i cannot connect via POP at all.

I get various errors from different clients:
    outlook : 0x80042108
outlook express : secure(ssl) no socket error 10061 error number 0x800CCC0E
manual coldfusion connection : error 500 (cannot connect)

    Cheecklist that i have tried;
pop3 service enabled for SM server
Firewall rules updated (in fact even turned off the firewall)
Tried to connect from an account that resides on the same machine using both 'localhost' and loop-back (127.0.0.1)
    Deleted domain and started again.
Restarted the smartermail web server (in desperation)

and all combinations of the above.

Does anyone have a clue what could be causing this? The self diagnositics comes back clean.

    Version number :
    OS : windows 2003 SBS r2

I'm lost and I'm supposed to be purchasing this for a few servers this week :(

Re: Smartermail 5 POP connection errors (no connections)

When connecting from the same machine, do not use localhost/127.0.0.1. Use the IP that the domain is set to listen on. (Manage Domains/Domain Settings). SmarterMail does not listen on 127.0.0.1 unless told to in the domain settings.

Additionally, make sure that MailService.exe is listening on port 110 by using the netstat command. "netstat -abnp tcp" will show you what ports are in use and by what process.

Re: Smartermail 5 POP connection errors (no connections)

Hi, Thank you for the swift response James.

I was just coming back to say that it appears to be ok now.

For those that have the same error, it was because i have other IP addresses listed against other NICs (which incidentally should not have been activated by the host company) and SM had defaulted to those when the domain was initially setup.

Thank you for your help James.
