Hi-

I am greatly enjoying SM5 -- the webmail client is significantly improved over the last release and rivals the usability of Web Outlook. Nice work on this.

I have been using SM Sync to keep my Outlook calendar, Blackberry, and SM in sync. I noticed after upgrading that my calendar is extremely slow in webmail -- to the point of being unusable. Approximately 1400 calendar entries are being synchronized.

Any thoughts or suggestions on this -- or other information I could provide to help debug this?

Is it signifcantly slower than it was in version 4? The calculation of events should not have changed much. How long are we talking? We are aware of a general slowness when dealing with hundreds of calendar appointments, and that is something we hope to improve upon, soon.

You can clean them up pretty easily by viewing the All Appointments page. You can then delete older events that you do not need any more and that should speed things up. 

48 seconds to bring up the monthly calendar.

35 seconds to bring up the daily calendar.

I believe this can be improved because it takes mere seconds to display the My Today Page, which pulls in my calendar items and to-dos for the week. I can send you the calendar XML field for my account if that would help.

You're right, that is quite slow, and it shouldn't be. We will do some more profiling with a very large calendar file and see if we can eliminate the bottleneck.

After deleting about 800 past events, I have reduced the size of the calendar xml file to 180K. The performance has improved, but not enough to make this usable. Daily loads in 18 seconds. Could this be something specific to my calendar file?

Perhaps it is. I have a 388K calendar file, and it loads the daily/weekly/monthly views in under a second.

If you are willing, you can send it to submit@smartertools.com (Add "Attention James" to the subject) and I'll load it up and see why it is going so slow.

 I've got your file and I can replicate the issue. We haven't been able to pinpoint the problem yet, though.
