When Spamassassin is on, the spool is growing and growing

The mails are there for hours and days. Status is spamcheck

After stopping spamassassin, the spool gets empty.

 So far I can see, nearly all mails are spam.

What goes wrong?

Use few known rbls and reject those messages at smtp level. This will eliminate 90% od spam.

How many messages do you receive a day?   I think the "single-threadedness" of the built in Spam Assassin starts to choke with volumes higher than 40000 messages a day.

The number of daily mails here is not very huge. outgoing Mails are not more then 1000-2000 mails/day.

Today most of my clients have the office closed. So my email-traffic goes to zero.

In the Spool are now 103 Mails

These Mails are waiting and waiting. there is no reason for such delay.

Disabling spamassassin is no good idea. My customers like the good Spamcontrol of smartermail/Spamassassin, When I disable spamassassin - few minutes laters is my phone burning. ;-)  spoiled customers.......

What is the configuration of your server? Is your spool on seperate fast drives?
