a real newbie question but i can't get any filters to work

i am trying to filter for ip address, so i went in created a new filter set - called it Ip address and just pasted one IP in there as a test  i.e. 1.1.1.1 but when i do a report on visitors i would expect it to filter it out but it still says there.

I would like to be able to filter out a few more ip address and and search bots as they are clouding the stats

I just tried this and it worked. When you create your Filter set make sure you check the active box lower left hand corner I think. I created a filter set called IP adrress and copy and pasted my type IP address from the IP addreses Report. I reran the report and they were gone.  One way  you can tell if its active is by looking to the right you will set Filter set , make sure your filter set's name is in the window.

i just deleted the old filter and redid and it worked this time - but it was exactly the same, including the active part.
