Thank you, this looks like it is going to be a great product with a lot of improvments to an already great product.

Azfar, you were quick to see the updated site :)

Were very proud of this release, in not only the number of new features and overall changes but more importantly how solid of a product it has become.  We have been running SmarterMail 5.x in-house for 3 months, giving employees and some partners the ability to provide input on usability etc.  The BETA will be an exciting time and we look forward to everyones comments.

Yes. This feature is very desirable (thumbs in e-mails containing images too :) )

Any input on any of this? The information in the upcomming products page doesn't answer any of my questions.

    Thanks

SmarterMail 5.x also includes many optimization enhancements for message delivery, disk i/o, and CPU utilization-further increasing its performance. In all, hundreds of new changes and additions have been made to SmarterMail 5.x, including: new enhancements to the Contacts, Tasks, Notes, and Calendaring features; updated Synchronization tools for Microsoft Outlook, PocketPC, and SmartPhones; and much much more!

Throttling... which is a big DEAL for many things, including SPAM.

But as I mentioned in the past, that our time is spent on building a Mail / Communications platform, and although we include many spam methods, its not our core business.  There are companies that ONLY work on this, no one company can do both!

Also, the spam assassin solution in conjunction with what we provided today solves 99% of spam issues with very few to no false positives.  It is what most hosting companies use, and are completely satisfied with!

    Tim

I like the throttling and better reporting. We use Declude for our anti-spam, so spam assassin isn't an issue for us. I was wondering about the synchronization with Outlook with SM5 though. The CEO has so many contacts and calendar items that it takes over a half hour to sync each of them with the SmarterMail Sync tool with a 100mb connection to the teamed gigabit nics in the server. This makes it impossible for him to use on his smartphone. I can only sync my calendar with my smartphone, as I have too many contacts. We would also like to tie SM5 into our Sharepoint WSS 3.0 intranet. This would need to be an easy method similar to sharing a resource in SM4 for the contributers of the Sharepoint site to be trained to do it. Some included Sharepoint web parts or templates would be really great. We are wanting to implement an in-house Instant Messaging system also. We'd prefer that it be tied into the mail system, and need to tie it into the Sharepoint site. The other large concern is the ability to run a fail-over server. It could even be a manual switch switch over. The mail server can go down, but it needs to be back up very quickly. The calls usually start rolling in after about 5 minutes if anything goes wrong currently. It would need to do real time replication of the data to be constantly up to date too.

Ccan we have such functionality in SM. Usualy more then 90% users use outlook or other email client but do not use webmail.

    Shared Resources

In the new version of SmarterMail, will you be able to share Calendars, Contacts, Tasks, etc across domains on the server?  We have two divisions setup with two separate domains, but we would like to be able to share these resources.

This would be great. I asked about this half year ago (http://www.smartertools.com/forums/p/14597/34534.aspx) but no one from ST staff has responded :/

No, and we don't have intentions to change this.  SmarterMail (all our products) are built with the premise that each domain is an entity in its own!

    Re: Shared Resources

I believe it should be available...at least on the Enterprise level.  I mean, there have to be tons of companies out there who have multiple domains and are hosting their own mail (such as I am).  I'm trying to coordinate projects through people who are on different domains.   Maybe it's time to change your "premise" in this regards.

I can see how that would be beneficial, but that is a HUGE change and not something we are planning for.  To remedy the problem you are having, I would actually make a domain for the project.

Actually, we have a couple domains thirdpartyproject@smartertools.com... And the thirdpartyproject is a portal for the project!  In the near future (shortly after 5.x is released) you will see why I am referring to it as a portal.

    Re: Shared Resources

I am not sure about others but in my country we have  some large enterprises which use sub domains for their different cities.

    khi.example.com.pk, lhr.example.com.pk, isb.example.com.pk

And I am sure those also require sharing of stuff.

I'd like to add my 2 cents regarding user impersonation and privacy.

I see how it could be valuable for a domain admin to be able to "impersonate user". I'd like this option available so that the mail server admin can turn the option on/off for any domain admin. BUT I would also like an option that by default is "false" - allow domain admin to see user inbox.

This way I could allow domain admins to do more, such as mess with a user's content filtering, trusted senders, etc. but NOT see the user's emails.

    Make sense?
