Problems importing contacts from Address Book in OS X

Hi There, My host has just transferred to the SmarterMail system, and my first impressions are great! Easy to use and full of features. However, I tried to backup my contacts from Apple Address Book (latest version.. 4.1) by exporting all entries as a single .vcf file and after uploading only one contact appears. Do I have to upload each contact separately? I have opened the .vcf file to check its contents and my 300+ contacts all appear to be there. Thanks in advance for any help. Dave*

SmarterMail expects each .vcf to have only 1 contact. If you are able to get them all into a single vcf per contact, you can zip up all the vcfs and upload the zip. That will process all .vcf files in the zip.

Or if you can export to a single .csv, that would work as well.
