    POP Retrieval to IMAP

I have POP Retrieval setup on my server and I can log onto it through the internet. But I would like to setup Outlook on my computer to use IMAP to connect to my serve to get my email but I'm not sure how.... is this considered a Gateway? Where do I setup IMAP on the server?

    Hi Padgetti,

All you have to do is make sure that your firewall is configured to forward TCP port 143 to the mail server. Make sure that IMAP is enabled for your domain, and configure outlook to connect.

     Very easily done.

    Re: POP Retrieval to IMAP

Thanks for the reply... but this is all kind of new to me... I know some about networking but there is still a lot I don't know.  Okay so do I need to configure the firewall on my server or my router or both?  As far as I know IMAP is configured on my domain but where exactly do I look to make sure?  I'm pretty sure I know how to configure Outlook once I get the server setup right.

To explain my situation even more I'm setting up SmarterMail to run on my Windows Home Server. I tried using the Outlook Sync Tool but quickly realized it only does everything but email..

Thanks again for your help. :)

Yay I got it! I Well sortof.... I set TCP port 143 on my router and the server firewall (gues that was the right thing to do).... but I thought with IMAP I could see my Calendar, etc. Also nothing shows up in the Inbox but shows up in the Sent Folder.... think I saw something similar elsewhere in the forum... but if it doesn't show my other folders then I don't really want to use it.... Does SmarterMail not show up as an "Other Sever Type" so that you can set it up like Exchange?
