Indifferent [:|] Delete for messages in the Junk E-Mail folder works too well

I'm using SmarterMail 4.3.2760. My Webmail delete option is set to "Move to Deleted Items folder".

Normally, deleting each message (via the Delete list link or the Delete button when the message is open) will do just that and move it to the Deleted Items folder. If I delete any message in the Junk E-Mail folder (whether moved there or put there by a content filter rule) using either delete method, the message disappears. It doesn't show up in the Deleted Items folder, nor anywhere else.

Has anyone else noticed this oddity when using Webmail?

This functionallity was added some time in 4.x.  Junk mail is no longer moved to the Deleted folder when it's deleted.  It's deleted right there.

As stated, messages already in the deleted items or junk e-mail folders are immediately removed when deleted. This was added in response to users finding it annoying that they had to delete junk messages twice, once in the junk mail, once in the deleted items folder, to get rid of it.

Thanks Mike and James for your responses!

I completely expect that behavior out of the Deleted Items folder, but the Junk Email folder is somewhere that *possible* junk mail goes. If I click delete on the wrong line, whoops, there goes that message. So, from my perspective, it's unintuitive (other e-mail clients I've used do not have this behavior) and undocumented (at least under the My Settings/Delete Action and Deleting Messages help pages).

Since it's ignoring the option for where deleted messages go, I'd like an option added specifically for where junk mail goes when it's deleted. It could default to the "disappear into the void" setting for the people who dislike using the Deleted Items folder as intended, but I'd at least like the option to recover from a mistake.

I do understand that I could move the messages through the Move interface, but that completely defeats the purpose of having a Deleted Items folder and delete buttons and is merely a workaround for a folder that ignores the Delete Action setting.

    Thanks!

Hey I need help! I accidentally deleted an important email I received in my junk mail folder in Hotmail. Is there a way to recover it? How?

    Thanks!

Hotmail or Smartermail?  Unless you have a backup of your mail file I think you're out of luck in Smartermail.  Deleting out of the Junkmail folder gets rid of the email permanently.
