timestamp does not follow imported emails

so i've searched the forums for hours tonite trying to find a solution for my problem. i've followed the "How To: Importing messages as .eml files into user's folder" and that works fine for the Inbox, but any subfolder i copy over do not show up unless i delete the root.cfg file and restart the mailservice. when root.cfg is rebuilt, it does indeed show the folder, but now the timestamps are all 12:00. i kid you not, i've tried 17 different ways of copying mail in and deleting config files, all resulting the same way with either the timestamps showing 12:00 or the subfolders not showing at all. can someone point me in the right direction on how to keep the timestamps intact?

Re: timestamp does not follow imported emails

i may have stumbled upon a crude work-around for now. on the source mail server, i have mad a script to traverse the users subfolders and then create that same directory structure on the SM server. i then use webservices to create the user accounts. then i follow http://support.smartertools.com/Customer/KBArticle.aspx?articleid=42&KBSearchID=126029 to copy the files in the inbox and those subfolders. it's crude, and definitely a 1-domain-at-a-time script, but will get me by tonite....the timestamps are intact...and that's the important thing

root.cfg is a pointer to all of the .grp files in a folder.  When add emails directly to a folder by something like windows explorer, the .cfg file must be deleted.  When the SM service is restarted this file will be re-created and will now point to all email in that folder.  Unfortunately, when you deleted the .cfg file and the pointers, it will reset all timestamps to midnight.

i agree...deleting the .cfg files will result in the timestamp changing to midnite. buy by creating the directory structure first, then creating the accounts, root.cfg picked up the folders. all i had to do then was stop the mailservice, delete the mailbox.cfg out of each folder i just created, copy over my .eml files, and restart the service....and viola! all timestamps are intact...though it did take some time for it to convert 200,000 msgs into .grp files Cool
