Cookie / Session issues with webmail?

Is anyone else having a problem with the Webmail interface losing track of the logged in user etc. It only occurs with the webmail service. I have tested it on both MSIE and FF with the same results, and it is not just me ... most of my clients are complaining of the same occurrence. SM Webmail runs on Win2003 Server via IIS. We run 4.x

A number of clients, as well as myself, have multiple accounts on the server so we log in and out of the accounts on a regular basis. (i.e. checking jane@domain.com and john@domain.com from the same computer and browser)

    • Many times the initial log in attempt merely reloads the login page - no error or anything, it just reloads the page. Subsequent login seems to work.
    • Sometimes when moving from one tab to another, or back to email folders from "settings" etc, the login page will be thrown back to the user. After logging in again it goes back to the last page it was at.
    • Sometimes when moving between folders or after opening email and going back to the inbox, it shows the folders from the previous user login - not the current user login. (i.e. if I log in with jane@domain.com, then log out, then log in with john@domain.com I will see john's folders and files for a while but then it may all of a sudden show jane's folders and mail.)

The only thing that seems to fix this issue is to delete the cookies after each login , then the issue does not occur any longer for the duration of that session.

Any ideas? I looked through the update history and release notes on the site and this issue does not seem to get noted or would appear to have been addressed.

Is SmarterMail in its own application pool? If so, make sure that it only has 1 worker process. We have seen some of these behaviors when this setting is greater than 1.

Thanks for the response ... that did the trick. It had been setup for 2 worker threads.

After changing it to 1 we have not seen the issue any longer.
