    Email Account Migration

On April 3 we upgraded from SM 3.3 to 4.0 and moved our services from an external server (multiple domains) to an in-house server in order to better control SPAM and the overall environment.

The manager of the external server was diligent in updating his DNS records as we transferred to our internal server but we had an internal DNS issue and only recently discovered that mail between some domains was still being directed to the old server and the old server was accepting the mail as the old accounts still existed.  Mail from external senders was routed appropriately but mail from internal sources was not.  As a result we have users with dual mailboxes with messages in each.  Of these users most of them use an Outlook client so getting the new accounts updated with emails from the old account was easy.

However, we've run into a handful of users that strictly use webmail and have a large volume of messages on the old account that we need to get to the new account.

Is anyone aware of a utility or process whereby we can recover/retrieve the messages from the old account while preserving the messages in the new account?  I searched the forum and kbase for "export email" but didn't find anything suitable to our situation.

    Thanks!

There are some articles in the KB which talk about moving mail between servers.  However, you may find this method to be useful.  Setup an IMAP account for each mail account in an email client (Ooutllok Express, Outlook, etc) and simply drag and drop the messages from one inbox to the other.

I see you just love IMAP Drew :o)

We transfered about 100 users a while ago between servers and used the KB method and it worked fine.

HAHA.  Yeah, the IMAP method isn't very practicle when having to do more than a couple users.

    Re: Email Account Migration

i have successfully done through one perl based script which talks between two imap and migrate the whole structure as it is.

here is the link : http://www.linux-france.org/prj/imapsync/

Note: for this you will need user/pass on both server for which account you wish to migrate.

Its line From > To method migration

you can also control folders and other stuffs.

i have successfully migrated my linux 175 domains mailboxes as it is on smartermail without any trouble.
