We've been having an issue with all accounts on our server. It seems that since last week all emails sent to yahoo accounts are being "deferred" back to the sender (421 error).

When it started last week we filled a request for whitelist with Yahoo and it seemed that the problems stopped, however after receiving an automated message from them today the issues began.

We thought this had something to do with greylisting so we added yahoo ips to our glbypass list however i guess that wasn't it.

We also tried sending html vs. plain text and it seems like the plain text ones fly by with ease.

Has anyone else been having similar issues with yahoo recently? if so were they solved? and how?

I'm not sure if this is still relevant, but some time ago, at least, Yahoo used to employ a really bad greylisting implementation which due to some internal issues, did not remember external servers. So your mail would get delayed over and over. I think they fixed it at some point, but it could, again, be something like this. Yahoo is a large mail provider, but even they have occasional issues...

 

Its not just a delay, mail doesnt reach the receiver and is bounced back.

We tried contacting Yahoo directly, but being it Yahoo we couldnt get past the automated service although we are trying...

Yahoo "defers" messages from non-whitelisted servers when their mail servers are backed up. It is a 421 error which indicates a temporary error, in which case SmarterMail will try again later (up to 4 times in 4.0, configurable in 4.1). Your best bet is to contact Yahoo (like you said, it's hard), and get them to whitelist you.

 It seems like all 4 retries are rejected as well.
