POP Retrieval and all the other desirable processes

I am using Smarter Mail 4.1.2622 for retrieving mail from my 7 pop3 accounts via pop retrievers and then accessing everything through one IMAP. I would love to have spam, virus and content-filter performed on all these messages, but have been reading that all of these processes are bypassed when mail is received by a pop retriever. Is this true?

Just short of forwarding mail from the 7 accounts, is there any way around this shortcoming?

Greylisting is one HUGE component of anti-spam in SM4, but it cannot be applied to your POP retrievels.  It has to be implemented on the receiving server.  The other Anti-Spam test involve checking the sending server's IP against RBLs.  This would require SM to dig deeper into the headers and determine which server sent the email to you originally.  The last test is the Bayesian Filter, and by itself, it usually isn't a very reliable spam filter.

Re: POP Retrieval and all the other desirable processes

Maybe my implication wasn't strong, but this server is for my personal use and so the customization can be to a much greater extent than normal production servers.

I don't care about greylisting on this server. The SMTP servers that feed my seven accounts already do it for me.

I have plenty of SARE rules for spamassassin to hit again body patterns instead of just mail headers.

Bayesian Filter was all I used in the past with SpamBayes, and it was extremely effective because I took great care to training it.

So I take from this that all anti-spam measures have been abandoned for those of us who need a repository server? What about content filtering and anti-virus?

    Bump --

Is there no way to run any form of filtering, anti-virus or SA rules on mail that comes in through the pop retriever?

No, there is not. POP Retrieval simply downloads the items and places them in your mailbox.
