Hi, Need some real help here

I've installed VMWare Server & SAVASM on My server, The ip allotted to VMNet1 is 192.168.0.1  & VMNet 8 is 192.168.58.1

we've given 192.168.81.1 IP to SAVASM, now from Linux console i am able to ping 192.168.81.1 but not to outside IP i..e of VMNet's IP or Server;s IP

also i am not able to ping from Windows system to SAVASM's IP 192.168.81.1

i am know something is wrong in setting, i've tried reinstalling VMWare & SAVASM but no avail

    Please offer any suggestions

I would like to put an appliance line this "in front" of my exchange server on a dedicated machine that has two network adapters.  How dificult do you think it would be to configure it to handle all inbound SMTP trafic on one adapter configured with a static IP and to forward accepted SMTP mail to the mail server I already have from the second adapter?

I am a Linux newbie and Windows expert.

@dev_shah: Sorry, but I can't help you with network settings. That's something particular to your environment, and only you can get to the bottom of it.

@mphamilton: SAVASM is not a mail proxy - it's only a SpamAssassin server, so you still need an MTA (like SmarterMail) to act as client.

     Hi,

Any workarounds or possible solutions some one like to suggest? as this small issue is preventing us to use a otherwise wonderful product

We are not able to connect outside VMWare nor from outside we are able to connect VMWare, does it ring any bells?

You might want to check the VMWare forums. You're more likely to get help there.

     Hello,

Do you have any plans to release an SAVAM that is compatable with Microsoft Virtual Server?

    Thanks,

Sorry, but there are currently no plans for something like that. I simply don't have the time, I'm afraid.

We are using SAVASM with Hyper-v so I am sure it should work with Virtual Server as well.

What we did was use the VMDK to VHD Converter to convert the VMWare Server disk to a Microsoft Virtual Hard Disk and then created a new Virtual Machine in Hyper-V using the conversted virtual harddrive.

It was quite simple and did not take long to do. The only issue found was that you need to use Legacy Network Adaptors in Hyper-V so that SAVASM could recognise the vortaul network cards.

The first mirror appears to be functional.

thats a shame....with more people going to vritual machine architecture it would be great to run 5.X with spamassassin on the same virtual server. I guess we have to wait for 6 when multithread SA is integrated? I just put up our mail server on VMware and having trouble getting SA to work on separate server.

    Re: SAVASM's SpamAssassin crash/hang everyday

Hi all, i'm running savasm on vmware server on win2003 std, which runs on single xeon 3ghz 4gb ram hardware. this server has only one website and virtually no load. i can't even spell linux correctly so please forgive my ignorance.

savasm is configured to run with 2 virtual processors and 2gb of ram.

on another smartermail box the SA setting is configured to point to this savasm. the mail volume is about 25k to 30k per day.

the savasm's spamassasin would crash almost everyday (every 20 to 30 hours). clamav seems to be ok.

the vmware server would hang about every 2 weeks, sometimes every 3 weeks.

    SA's config: --max-children=15 --max-conn-per-child=128

would someone please help me, why does SA crashes everyday? or would someone pls provide a cron job or script that would restart SA periodically? thank you very much!

    Re: SAVASM's SpamAssassin crash/hang everyday

By the way I have in mind to run 2 instances of savasm off the same piece of hardware and vmware, each configured to use 1 proc and 1gb ram, and reduce max-children to 10 and max-conn to 64.

would this help out the daily crash problem? Does SM4 uses round robin if more than one SA is configured? Thanks!

I have a similar problem, and as I couldnt get an answer to it, I have set a cron job to simply restart SA every hour as it keeps taking more and more ram till my VM crashed, this way it seems to be a bit more stable.

    Re: SAVASM's SpamAssassin crash/hang everyday

Hi eastwood, would you please let me know how is the cron job written?

i tried using the exec command to run "spamd restart", and got some errors:

    > spamd restart
[29017] warn: server socket setup failed, retry 1: spamd: could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Address already in use
[29017] warn: server socket setup failed, retry 2: spamd: could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Address already in use
[29017] error: spamd: could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Address already in use
spamd: could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Address already in use

i'm not sure if it's even restarted at all, but spamd is running though after the command.

i have no experience in linux so hopefully you would help me out here. thanks much.

btw i tried exec command "clamd restart", but it says command not found... what's the command for clamd?
