30 seconds per message is high, but it also depends on the messages; a large message could take even longer than that. Processing time will depend on a lot of factors, from the message size and content to the server load and resource availability. What can you do about this? Play around with the settings; decrease the number of child processes, then incrementally increase them, all the while checking resource use. Try disabling some SA checks. There is a lot you can do, but unfortunately I simply don't have the time to offer support for this myself.

So far I can only get VMWare Server to work on a public IP Address with the SAVASM firewall disabled.  From what I can tell the SAVASM firewall is configured to work on a 192.168.x.x subnet and I can't find out how to change it.

I disabled the firewall via the console SETUP program to get access. I read earlier that you should go into WebAdmin and change Network / Linux Firewall rules, but there are none configured that I can find (I'm guessing because it's disabled via setup).

All I really need to do is change the 192.168.x.x to my real IP Address.

Can anyone tell me how to make that change?  I'm a Linux idiot.

    Thanks,

    -Joe

You need to make sure that:

    1. Your network settings in SAVASM are correct. See point 1.9 in the readme.

    2. Make sure SpamAssassin allows your SM IP (range). See 2.6.

    3. The firewall is not set to block anything, but you can check it using webmin, See 2.7

Why would you include a firewall that, "is not set to block anything"?  That doesn't make much sense.

Here's what I can tell you.

I have VMWare / SAVASM running on a live (real) IP Address (not a 192.168.x.x address).

#1  When I use the console to run setup then disable firewall all runs fine.  SpamAssassin works fine and I can access web admin.  But, the rest of the world could use my SpamAssassin if they found it.  I can access the web admin from anywhere.  Not something I want.

#2  If I enable the firewall via setup I cannot access web admin and SpamAssassin stops working.

So the firewall does in fact block something.

The question is how to change the firewall to accept my live IP Address instead of the 192.168.x.x range (which I'm not using)?  When the firewall is disabled via console you can't configure it inside web admin, and if I enable the firewall I can't access web admin to configure the firewall.  Catch 22.

The firewall is set to block access on various ports (see the readme). What I meant was that it will not block IPs.

SpamAssassin will only accept connections from the IPs you explicitly define; no one else can use it. And Webmin can be configured to work in the same way. When using SAVASM on a public IP, though, what I do is set all the services (webmin, SSH, SA) to run on non-standard ports; that way it is unlikely that anyone will find them, or be able to exploit them even if they do.

Another issue I've discovered.  The time on the SAVASM server is inaccurate.  I have the proper timezone configured but the time is off by about 10 minutes.

I've tried setting the VMWare Server option to allow SAVASM to obtain time info from the host but that doesn't seem to correct the problem.

Is there a way to have SAVASM use a time server to set the time on a regular basis?
